ABOUT THIS SITE
Affiliate disclosure
The short version
Open Latitude may earn money through affiliate links. If you buy something through one of those links, we may get a commission from the seller. It doesn't cost you anything extra.
Right now, no page on this site contains affiliate links. We will update this page and the articles concerned when that changes.
How affiliate links will work here
- We only use links issued by affiliate programs that have approved us. We never make up links, prices or product details.
- Any article with affiliate links will say so clearly near the top, before the first link, in plain words. We won't rely on this page alone, and we won't hide disclosures in footnotes or behind a click.
- We will name the kind of relationship: for example, that we earn a commission on sales made through a link.
- If we ever receive a free product, a discount or payment to cover something, we will say so in that article too.
How we keep recommendations independent
- We decide what to write about based on what's useful to readers, not on which products pay a commission.
- We don't claim to have tested a product unless we actually have. When we haven't, we say what our information is based on.
- We don't publish fake reviews or testimonials.
- Prices, availability and terms change. We check them before publishing and date our checks, but always confirm on the seller's site before you buy.
Why we disclose this way
In Canada, the Competition Bureau's guidance on influencer marketing and the Competition Act says that being paid in commissions is a material connection that should be disclosed, that disclosures should be prominent and visible without clicking to expand anything, and that simply linking to an affiliate page is unlikely to be enough on its own.
